We were off to a good start. The cold weather was freezing things nicely and a small amount of snow was helping
us to groom a base. Only one minor problem w/the groomer so-far. A leaking hydraulic hose which was replaced in
an afternoon. Just when it looked like everything was rolling smoothly, once again it warmed up and rained. All the
trails are mud and mush again. All we can do is hope for more cold weather and lots more snow in the new year.
Please take this opportunity to make sure to have your registration up to date, purchase your club memberships,
and obtain your required insurance cards to be ready to ride when the time comes.

We had our January meeting last evening. A number of things were discussed including....
(1) Placing garbage cans at certain locations along the trail where trash is becoming a problem.
(2) Finding a re-route before next year for the part of rt.15 that runs along Old Stage Rd. in Westford, as this is
the last year the town will allow us to use the road. Anyone able to help please email us or attend our next meeting.
(3) We need some seasoned experienced snowmobilers who would be willing to help out w/the countys new
program as a "Couirtesy Patrol" person. These riders would decide which day they were going to ride locally and
simply wear some courtesy vests so that other riders on the trail know they are available to ask querstion, give
directions, etc...
(4) We also have space available on the website to place ads for area businesses to help defray the cost of web
space. Anyone wanting to place an ad leave us a message.
(5) We are also in need of a fuel tank to hold diesel fuel for the groomer.
We have recieved an email from the landowner who owns the property at the junctions of rt 7 and rt 15 in the field
between the dragstrip and the town property about someone destroying his No Tresspass signs. He has
generously granted permission for SNOWMOBILES only during the regular season. He has had lots of problems
with 4-wheelers and vandalism. Anyone witnessing such acts should report them immediately. This is a very
important piece of property linking both the trails going to Colchester and to Essex. It would be a shame to lose it
because of a couple of disrespectful people. PLEASE REMEMBER.....WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF OUR
GENEROUS LANDOWNERS WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY TRAILS TO RIDE ON.....PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF
THE PROPERTY AND TAKE ANY TRASH WITH YOU....IT TAKES VERY LITTLE EFFORT TO PICK UP A CAN ON
THE TRAIL BUT GOES A LONG WAY TO KEEPING OUR TRAILS OPEN!!
THANK YOU AND HAPPY RIDING!!!

We recieved about 3-4 more inches of fresh snow yesterday afternoon. Last evening we groomed from Milton east
on Rt. 15 out
to the Browns River in Essex Center. On the return trip we spun a track on an icy hill in Westford. Trail conditions
are not the best as of yet. Lots of ice and frozen ruts in the trail. The first trip out was just to help start to fill in
some of the ditches and holes for a base. We definitely need more snow and cold weather before we can have
smooth trails to ride on.
We didn't have enough volunteers to replace the heavy track. We plan to return with help and tools this
afternoon/evening to get the rig up and running again. (picture to right)
Greg and Bruce tighten
the track as Dave works
the hydraulics.
Dave and Bruce drag the
track into place with
Greg at the controls.
The track is intact but will
require a few hours of
muscle to put it back on.

Last evening we repaired the track on the groomer on an icy Westford hill. It took a couple hours of work and Greg
headed back towards Milton smoothing out the trail along the way. Everything was going nicely, the snow was
laying down smoothly, until the hitch at the back of the groomer let go and we needed to leave the drag behind on
the trail.
The groomer is back at our home base so we can repair the hitch and check everything out. As soon as it is done
we will go out to Westford, retrieve the drag, and groom as much as possible. We need a little more snow in many
areas of rocky and/or rutted trails to make them smooth and rideable.
As I followed Ethan (one of our youngest riders), I noticed he stopped every time he came to sticks or
other debris on the trails and moved them. Wouldn't our trails be soo much better and more
groomable if everyone was this thoughtful!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night Bruce repaired the hitch on the groomer. Bruce and Dave went out to retrieve the drag, fixing a couple
bad spots on the trail along the way. Our grooming equipment is back at Arrowhead Motors awaiting snow.
The trails are extremely rough and bony so if you value your machine wait for snow!!!!

There hasn't been a lot happening with the trails lately. We have finally recieved a few inches of snow. The
groomer will be out on the trails today so exercise extreme caution if riding. At night the groomer is lit up brightly
but when conditions are ok for daytimne grooming it is harder to see.

On Thursday evening our entire trail system was groomed. About 70% of the trails are in pretty good shape and
rideable, but some sections still require more snow to cover ruts and washouts. Several more trees were down
and cleared from the trail. There is still a couple more to take care of but are not blocking travel.

This has been a very busy fall for us.We've had several meetings and many hours of trail work. The groomer is
almost ready to go now. We had a good crew work all night changing fluids and greasing. One of the tracks needs
to be replaced. We will be scheduling another evening to take all the track bars off the tracks and transfer them to
the new ones. We need help finding a reroute off Devino Rd and Old Stage Rd. The residents there have
concerns about safety plus its better for the equipment to be off road.
02/10/05
We recieved over 8 inches of snow so far and it's still coming down. The groomer is out and we are hoping for
another 6-8 before it all ends on Friday. Our trails will be groomed and ready for the weekend but use caution as
the trails had no snow cover before this storm and were very wet from the warm weather and rain.
02/25/05
The fuel tank has been delivered, moved into place and filled. It will be a great savings on fuel for us of at least
50 cents a gallon from the pump price. With the cold weather and several small snowstorms the groomer has
been ouit on the trails almost constantly and the trails should be in great shape. Just beware of ice in some areas.
03/04/05
We would like to thank snowmobilers Alan Clark, his fiancee'
Sarah Pashbee, and Chuck Granger for stopping to help out
when the groomer was stuck on an icy hill in Colchester. They
were there for the duration to help until the groomer was on
its way.

A couple weekends ago several volunteers welded studs onto the
tracks of the groomer. This has enabled us to groom our icy hills
with greater ease and less stress on the equipment. Thanks very
much to Premier Tire and Auto of Milton for graciouisly allowing
us the use of thier facilities and expertise to attach the studs.

We had our first meeting of the year tonight. Several Issues were
discussed. The groomer needs to be serviced and have new studs
welded on the tracks. We need to survey the trails and assess the
work needed. The Town of Westford is no longer allowing us to use
the road to connect our trails so we need to come up w/a reroute
ASAP. Bruce Trombley and Dan Ward are working on getting
permissions from landowners and trying to find willing landowners to
provide property to reroute our trail off the road. Any help w/this
would be appreciated. Club funds are low and any help
w/fundraising would be appreciated.
